June Meeting of the H3Ohs

Happy Independence Day! Thank to all of the soldiers for serving our country - we appreciate you!

This month members helped out with the KidZoobilee (co-chaired by founding members Cheryl Crenshaw & Lora Sykora) AND donated formal, cocktail and informal dresses for the Spouses Club for the Army Wives of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Please read detailed information below about the Spouses Club:

Just like with any military base there are many advantages as well as disadvantages. We have been so blessed to live here on this beautiful island with a small town feel, and we are surrounded by many military branches which creates a VERY tight knit community. With that we have many formal, cocktail, and informal social gatherings to attend. All are welcome to these functions. This however presents a problem and disadvantage for the women of Gitmo. We are fortunate to have a Navy Exchange; this is best described as a mini Wal-Mart. This Exchange has the bare minimum and does not lend us women the opportunity to purchase formals, cocktail dresses, high heels, or even costume jewelry. The Spouses club takes donations and sells them to the military community and all proceeds go to scholarships, other organizations, and social gatherings for Gitmo residents. In closing, as women we ALL want to feel beautiful, donations can help with that as well as allowing so many of the women in Gitmo to want to attend these social events.
